The transition from "helpee" to "helper" can sometimes be difficult. There are situations when I am not sure which of the two I am supposed to be. For example, I am receiving some funds from Ontario Works while I am finishing up this schooling. My new Case Worker and I hit it off from the beginning. When she took over, I had already completed a year of my training, so although I was a client, we had some common ground. From the beginning, I thought she was an awesome lady. And I still do. The supervisor at one of my placements is good friends with this lady from Ontario Works. There's a battle inside me when my supervisor talks about her because I feel 'lower' than them being a client and all, but the professional part of me wants to consider myself on the same level as them. I don't want to be 'just a client' to the OW lady. J's placement student would be okay. A collegue would be even better.
Ramblings of an (almost) SSW
I'm in my final year of the Social Services Worker (SSW) dipolma program. Since starting this program, I have grown in leaps and bounds. My thoughts have changed. My views have changed. And, my tolerance for injustice and bullying has changed. I am a very different girl than I was just one one year ago. Now I have thoughts and ideas floating through my mind at 100 miles a minute. I see everything so differently, and I definitely see things that I have never noticed before.
This blog is about all that. This is where I will post my revelations, raw thoughts, and rants about issues and topics that are important to me. I will share my ideas about some popular media stories, and about stories that are very close to home.
Hope you read and enjoy and please, feel free to comment and agree or disagree with me. I want to continue to be challenged, even when I am finished school and get out there in the SSW work field.
